This was my second group hike since the COVID-19 virus outbreak here in the US. New Hampshire has not been affected as bad as other states in the Union. But with some social distancing and fresh air I met a group for a quick trip up Pitcher Mountain.
Pitcher Mountain is located in Stoddard, NH along the Monadnock Sunapee Greenway trail. There is a fire tower on this mountain. This is one of 16 active firepower’s in New Hampshire.

We all met at the parking lot marked with a sign that says Pitcher Mt. Fire Tower. There was plenty of parking in the lot for around 8-10 cars and a good number of spots along the road as well. This is a short popular hike so spaces open up often if the lot is full.
Once everyone arrived and we took a quick group shot we headed up the trail. We had a choice of an old farm road or a foot path to the summit. We decide to go up the old farm road and down the footpath.
Along the farm road there were a number of views through open fields that had just been hayed. The smell of freshly cut sweet grass was intoxicating as we made our way up to the fire tower.
The hike up took about 20 easy minutes with lots of stops for photographs. This was not a long hike and once at the top we were rewarded with 360 degree views. The clouds in the sky were well above the surrounding peaks.
We could clearly see Mt. Sunapee and Mt. Monadnock from the tower. We sat up at the summit for sometime enjoying some beverages and a snack before heading down the foot path.
The walk down was pretty easy and even quicker then the walk up. It might have only taken ten minutes to get down. This is a great first hike for anyone who has never hiked but wanted to give it a try. Very easy and very short. It also offers excellent views. This is definably a must do hike for anyone. I plan on going back during a meteor shower to shoot the stars.
