Burton Peak and Holt Peak via the Wapack Trail
Bright crisp Fall days truly are the best days. Some friends and I decided to take a walk up to Burton Peak and Holt Peak and fill in some gaps along the Wapack Trail in Southwest New Hampshire.
We all meet at the Sharon Ledges Trailhead in Temple NH. There is enough room for about 10 cars if people park correctly. My friends arrived with their 1 year daughter who seemed excited to hitch a ride up the trail in a backpack. But no one was more excited than their dog Summit.

We started to make our way up the trail. The trail climbed through the woods with a moderate grade at first. Soon we made our way to the top of the first ridge which had some great views along the way. We stopped for a break when we reached the Roger Myrick Outlook and took a few photos.
From here we could see the southern half of the Wapack trail leading down into Massachusetts. The colors on the leave were just past peak but were beautiful none the less.
The trail follows a beautiful old stone wall through the forest. After a bit more walking we came upon Burton Peak. At the summit of this small peak there are great views of Mt. Monadnock.
After a quick snack we continued on. The trail had some rolling ups and downs but we eventually made our way to Holt Peak. We looked around a bit and took a few pictures and then started on our way back.
The return trip seemed to go much quicker. We soon found ourselves back at Burton Peak and by this time we were all ready for lunch. From here we continued on down back to the car.
The whole trip was about 5 miles out and back. Over all the trail is well maintained and clearly marked with the yellow triangle used for the Wapack trail.
This section of the trail takes you up the ridge line quickly and once you are on the top of the ridge much of the trail is fairly flat or at least has easy grades. I would recommend this to anyone looking to get out and enjoy nature without all the mainstream crowds.
