For years I’ve driven past this little recreation area and wanted to stop. Especially in winter.
I’m talking about the Beaver Brook Ski in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
A few years ago I invested in a set of back country/cross country skies. I wanted to be able to explore the winter landscape in a different way. I choose the Fischer S-bound 98 skis and ever since I’ve wanted to stop here.

The weather was calling for extremely cold temps all over New Hampshire so I thought this might be a good day to go for a drive and check out this area. I could also take a look at some other areas that I’ve wanted to take my skis out as well.
When I got the Beaver Brook lot there were already quite a few cars there but the lot was not even close to full. It might also be good to note that there are grills at this recreation area and they seem to be out year round if you can brave the cold and want to cook up some burgers. Lol.
After I got the skis on, I choose the shorter and easier Beaver Ski Trail. In total it was about 2 miles.
This was a perfect trail for me to practice on.There was some uphill and down hill sections but nothing to steep or technical. Just enough to have fun and be on the edge of my comfort zone. I’m still a beginner and a little unbalanced on some of the hills. I’m also not very good at stopping just yet.
On the way in the trail was very packed and had been well traveled by both skiers, hikers and snowshoers. But once I reached the the half way point there was a lot of fresh snow about 3” deep. This made the skiing much more enjoyable.
The whole trip only took a little over an hour but was well worth the drive. I’ll have to come back after a good storm next time. If you are new to cross country skiing I would recommend this Recreation area.
