Macks Apples Northern Orchard Loop and Town Commons
Today was a beautiful day. There was still snow on the ground so I decided to take out my xc skis.
My plan was to check out the Musquash Conservation Area in Londonderry.
When I got to the trail head it was full with cars and the trail looked like it was pretty packed down hard from hikers and snowshoes. So I decided to try some place else.
Since I was already in Londonderry I thought I would try out Macks Apple Orchard near Adams Pond. The parking for the trail system at the Morrison House.

The trails are across the street from the parking lot. So I grabbed my skis and headed toward the town commons.
This part of the trail was seemed to be pretty hard packed too so I didn’t explore to much up in this area. As I made my way back to the orchard there was a clear and defined xc track and lots of open snow.
My Fischer S-Bounds are just a little to wide to fit nicely in the track so I like to stay in the fresh powder and make my own track with these skis.
I continued to break my own trail toward the back side of the orchard. Then made my way to the Adams trail junction.
I continued on toward Adams Pond but then came to a dead end. So I started to make my way back up to the orchard.
On my way up, there were a some small hills I had to climb and I decided to take a couple glides down in the fresh snow.
Out in the open snow there was about an 1” loose crust on the snow from warming up and cooling down. My skis were able to cut through the crust with out any issue.
I’d like to come back and revisit these trails after a good storm. I bet they would be a lot of fun.
