Given such a profound rock I had to check it out. After I first learned of the rock, I took a ride to see what the parking was like. It was late winter so there were snowbanks that filled the pull off parking. The trail to the rock is kind of a road but it was not plowed and was not worth getting stuck in. So, I decided to wait for warmer weather.
I came back to visit in the month of August. Trees were in full bloom and the grass was tall and I’m sure full of ticks. There was enough room for two or three cars in the pull off section right by the trail.
The trail is actually kind of an old logging road the in overgrown with grass and weeds. There is not kiosk or trail sign here. You just have to kind of follow the path.
I started down the trail and went about a quarter mile or so and the path verged to the right a bit near the height of land. It was a well-traveled herd path, so I was pretty confident this was the right way.
After a short distance the giant granite rock shaped like a frog was in front of me. I’ve seen several pictures both old and new of the rock but sure enough it did indeed look like a frog. Pretty cool if you ask me.
I took a few pictures and then headed back to the car. It was a fun little jaunt and did not take any time at all to hike to it. Now, driving to the location took a bit of time. It is about 35-50 minutes from Manchester. So if you are looking for a beautiful drive and a short walk this is a great one to enjoy.
