Original plan was to go Jackson, NH but since I was also going to Killington the next day I opted to check out the Wolfeboro XC trails since it was much closer and the snow is pretty good all around the state. No sense in making two long drives in the same weekend.
Tickets for the Wolfeboro XC trails are sold at the Wolfeboro Cross Country Ski Association right on North Main Street in Wolfeboro NH. This shop also has rentals and a lot of good winter outdoor equipment for purchase or renting. Tickets are very affordable at $15 for a single adult.
There are two different trail networks in Wolfeboro. The first is the Abenaki Cross Country Ski Trails and the Seawall Woods Cross Country Ski Trails. The Abenaki trails are mostly blue difficulty, and the Sewall trails are a good mix of green and blue trails.
For trip I opted to do the outer loop of the Sewall Woods trail. The temps were very cold and around 6 degrees when I reached the trail head off of Clow Road. The lot was not big but there was enough room for about 10-15 cars and there is an outhouse at the lot for bio breaks if needed.
This was only the second time I’ve taken out my new Fischer OBX skis and again they did not disappoint. One really nice thing about these is I opted for the step in bindings and that makes a world of difference when taking the skis on and off.
At the start of the trail there is a nice warming hut for you to take a break if you are planning on being there all day. I took a quick peek inside and it was pretty nice.
As I started my journey, I decided to ski the perimeter of the trails as best I could. Even the out loops. The main out loop is called the super loop and is marked on the trail map. The loop I did was a little beyond this one.
The trail was nice and firm, and the tracks were nicely set. Whoever does the grooming does a fantastic job. I decided to do my route counterclockwise. Starting on M&M Meadow > JGs Journey > M&M Meadow > Tuttle Trail > Terrance Loop > Criss Cross > Mountain View Loop > Criss Cross > Steve’s Run > Lower Ridge Trail > Mums Run > M&M Meadow. The total mileage was just under 4mi.
Trails were all a lot of fun and I’ll be back to complete some of the middle connecting trails in this section.
