Not far from the Cape May Lighthouse there is a shipwreck that is worth seeing.

In March, 1926, The SS Atlantus broke free from its mooring during a storm and was beached about 150 yards off shore. Many attempts were made to free the ship but nothing worked.

You can still see the remains of the ship from Sunset beach in Cape May. The stern is the most visible part of the ship, the middle is totally submerged but the some of the bow can be seen during low tide.

This makes an interesting destination if you are a beach lover and want to experience something unique.

There is a good amount of parking but there is a good amount of people and traffic too. So expect to do a little walking. There is also a great gift shop off to the side.
