Lucy is a giant elephant roadside attraction in Margate City, NJ. She was built in 1881 by James Lafferty making it Americas oldest roadside attraction.

This elephant has been a home, tavern as well as a national historic monument. She was originally named “Elephant Bazaar” before she was named Lucy.
We arrived and found some street parking right away. There is a small lot for visitors, but it fills up quickly.

We entered the attraction to look around. This is free but if you want to go up into the elephant you will need a ticket. The tickets are $8.50 per person.
We walked around waiting for our timed entrance and took some pictures of the elephant. We went into the gift shop and made a few purchases.

When we joined our tour to go in, you first go up a narrow spiral staircase that leads you into the main chamber of the elephant. It is mostly a large space.
Interesting fact, the elephant’s butt has a window you can look out of. I thought this was kind of funny.

We walked around and listed to the tour guide give us a bunch of information about the elephant.
Soon we made our way up a little further to the top basket where there are great views of the ocean and the city. It got pretty crowded up there quickly so after a few pics we made our way back down.

Very fun quick attraction, and glad we stopped to check it out.
