A fun ski around Green Woodlands with my buddy Jay. The weather for the day was a mixed bag. Temps were in the teens and 20’s but the winds were strong with gusts up to 50mph.

When Jay and I got to the lot it was already pretty full. Once we got our gear on we headed over to the trail junction.
We talked with a few people coming off the trial and they gave us an updated about what trails had been groomed and what trails were icy.

We started up the Dorchester Road trail. This trail was in much better condition than when I was here earlier. We skied up to the first junction and then continued up to the main area by the lake.
We skied over to the fire pit which was roaring and checked out the ski shed where you can borrow some cross county skis if you want to try it out.

From here we continued up the Noris Road trail. This is a gradual incline but not too hard. The part of the trail was in good condition except for all the debris that the wind was blowing on the trail. It was especially collecting in the classic track.

We got to the junction at the end and took a break for a few. We then continued up the trail that goes to Smarts Mountain. We only went up a little way, just past a frozen pond.

We skied off trail a bit, the snow was pretty solid due to the winds. When I took my ski off though I sank down up to my knees. At this point we decided a beer might be necessary. So we broke a hole in the snow for our feet and placed the skis in as a back rest and we had perfects seats.

The wind was still blowing strong. I had to put my extra coat on while we were stopped. After our beverage we started to make our way back down the Black Bog trail. The trail was freshly groomed and had very little debris in the classic track. This trail has some rolling hills but also has a nice downhill slope to it.

This put us back at the first trail junction we passed at the beginning of our trip. We then followed the main road down back to the parking lot. This is the same route, with a few small exceptions, that I did last time I was up there. Next time I’ll try out some of the other trails. It would also be fun to do a car spot and ski out to a different location.
