This is a pretty cool graveyard if I do say so myself. This cemetery is very old. There are some people buried there that were born before the United States was a country.

I learned of this cemetery from a book called Stones and Bones of New England by Lisa Rogak. What is cool about this cemetery is that it sits between the north and south bound lanes of Interstate 89 in New Hampshire.

According to Rogak when they were mapping the interstate the terrain took them through Warner and this cemetery was directly in the way. They could have taken the property by eminent domain, they did not.

I’m sure this had something to do with many Civil War veterans and their families laid to rest. There is also a large marble tomb at the beginning that would be difficult to move. So they decided to leave the cemetery and design the lanes to go around both sides.

The Lower Warner Cemetery is easy to miss if you are not aware of it. The highway is about a 100 feel below. It makes you realize how far they had to dig down to get the right grade for an interstate.

You can get to it by getting off of exit 8 on I-89. There is an entrance just after you get off the exit. The cemetery is wooded all around it so it is easy to miss if you are not paying attention.
