It was a perfect day for a hike, the weather was cool and a light breeze was blowing enough to keep the bugs at bay.

Black Mountain is located in the western NH and has excellent views at the summit. I got to the parking area at 10am and started up the Chippewa Trail. The trail is 1.9 miles long but I also decided to take a small .2 mi. side trip to see some of the Lime Kilns.

The trail was pretty straight forward. It started as a walk in the woods but soon started climbing up steeply through an evergreen forest. There are many viewpoints on the way up to the south, east and west.

The trail is rocky and ledgy toward the top and at the summit with lots of great opportunities for photos. On the summit it is worth exploring the ledges.

Over all this was a great hike. It was short but the steepness still made it a good workout. The abundance of views and lack of people made this one of my new favorites for the 52 with a view.
