When conditions are right, Cannon is my favorite mountain to ski in New Hampshire. It has amazing views, and over 2K of vertical to ski down.

Most years, if you are a New Hampshire Resident you can get a discount ticket on Wednesdays. Since this Wednesday happened to be my birthday, I decided to go to Cannon and enjoy some fresh fallen snow.

The weather was supposed to be pretty good. Temps in the single digits with light winds. It was a bit cloudy in the notch this morning, but the clouds cleared in the afternoon.
For my first run, I wanted to go to the top. It took two lifts to get there. I ended up going down Vista Way. This trail has the best views of Franconia Notch and Ridge. It’s a blue trail but it was covered in moguls, so I was slow on it.

I kept doing top to bottom runs with a variety of trails on the way down all morning. After 3 or 4 full runs I took a break and had some lunch.
After lunch I headed back out and up to the top. I wanted to make my way over to the tram, but it seemed to be a lot of work to get over there. I talked with a few others that did go and they all said they had to walk so I opted to not go and stay on this side of the mountain.

On the way up the chair lift I could see that the clouds had cleared over Franconia Ridge. So when I got to the top I took off my skies and hiked up the short trail to the look out tower.

Climbing up those stairs with packed with snow, in ski boots is a bit of a challenge. Even more so, coming down. Up at the top there were a few other skiers and some hikers. The views were fantastic in all directions.

After I got my fill of pictures, I stared down the stairs, very carefully, and walked back to the trail head where my skis were.

I took a few more runs down the mountain before calling it a day. Overall the conditions were really good. Very little ice anywhere on the mountain. This was a great day to enjoy the benefits of being a New Hampshire resident. Lots of pictures all day long.
