My Aunt and Uncle were visiting from Colorado and wanted to see the state of Vermont while they were here.

My mom was telling them about the Vermont Country Store and we all planed to take a drive out there. Weather was pretty good. It was humid and overcast.

On the way we were going through Bellows Falls and I mentioned some Indian Petroglyphs that were supposed to be down by the river. My uncle was interested in seeing them, so we made a stop near the Vilas Bridge.

There is a trail down to the rocky and very steep and slippery rocks where the carvings are.

We searched the area for a bit but had no luck locating the petroglyphs. We knew they wouldn’t be out in the open but did not think it would be this hard.
We almost gave up and went back up to the car to see if there was a path on the other side of the bridge. But there was nothing.

So we went back down one more time and were able to locate one set the petroglyphs. They were marked by two yellow faded paint markings on the rock.

The carvings were pretty cool to see. There are a lot questions surrounding these marks. Most believe that they were made by the Abenaki Indians that lived in the area.

I’m not sure what the figures actually represent but they do look a lot like aliens. Some of them even had antennas.

I’ll have to wait for another time to go look for the other set petroglyphs.

Fun little roadside stop if you are in the area of Bellows Falls, Vermont.
