We learned about the Arlington Covered Bridge from the small Norman Rockwell Museum we passed on the side of the road. When we entered there was a back room filled with Norman Rockwell photos, prints and memorabilia.

After looking around a bit we were in line at the check-out and there was a sign that said the covered by Norman Rockwells summer retreat was just 3 miles down the road. So of course we had to check it out.

The Arlington Covered Bridge was built in 1852 and spans 80 feet over Batton Kill River in Arlington Vermont. The bridge was constructed using a Town Truss. Through the bridge you can see the large white house that Rockwell used to live in.

As we walked toward the house there was a BBQ going on at a pavilion on the property. At the house there is a historical sign that talks about the house.
The bridge itself is beautiful from every angle. It is simply set in a perfect country location. There is a swimming hole below with a rope for kids to swing off of. I imagine this bridge has had many people who enjoyed a swim at this location.
