I was heading up to Vermont for a few days to ski with some friends at Sugarbush in Warren Vermont. On my way up. I wanted to check out some cross country skiing trail for at least a half-day so. I set out early and made my way up to Blueberry Lake Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoe Center also in Warren Vermont.

Interesting stone arch along the trail.

It was a nice drive up to the center. Parking was easy and had lots of room. The office is across the street from the the lot. I went in I was greeted with friendly people. I told them that I had never been there and only had a few hours. They suggested a loop that had great views of Sugarbush. I then bought a ticket and headed out on my way.

Heading into a froze apple orchard.

The trail starts out next to the parking lot with a nice glide down towards a small dirt road crossing. It was early in the morning the trails were groomed, but because of the cold they were a little slick, and some of those downhills were a little steep and fast, and I ended up taking a small tumble.

I picked myself up and continued where the trail crosses the road. After the road there is a bridge over a stream and then a short steep incline. I knew I would be side stepping this on the way back.

Scenic Vermont

From here I continued on to where things begin to open up in the fields. This is where the loop starts. I decided to do the loop counterclockwise which allows me to do the climbing in the woods and have a nice gradual downhill through the fields with the views.

Me and my shadow

The weather was crisp, and the sky was blue with barely any clouds up there. It was a perfect day to be out. As I continued along the trail, there were some farms and stonewalls.

I also traveled through some Maple Groves, and Apple orchards along the trail. It was like I was skiing in a Robert Frost poem.

Open fields and Sugarbush in the background

Once I reached the Highpoint, I started to descend slowly, and some views of Sugarbush started to open up, where my friends were currently skiing.

The trail had a lot of little rolling bumps and hills that would sneak up on you if not paying attention. I soon entered into some fields towards the bottom that had outstanding views, no matter where you looked. I enjoy skiing through open fields. I just be like I’m part of the scenery.

I continue along the fields and the roads all open with the sun shining down. This was definitely a great way to end this small excursion.

Once I reached the beginning of the loop, I begin to climb back up toward the parking lot. The snow has softened up quite a bit through the day, and there were lots of other people out, enjoying the trails as I was returning.

The snow was soft as the sun got higher.

Next time I come back to this area, I look forward to exploring some of the other trails at this cross country center.
